AN UPCOMING hip hop musician has penned a song after his lover ditched him for another man.
The musician Mathew Gundani, 24, better known as DJ Matt in the music circles he was left heartbroken after his lover was impregnated by another man.
In response to the sad love story, the Norton based hip hop artiste jotted down the song ‘Almost Lover’ to express his anger to his girlfriend.
“Almost Lover is a song about a girl whom I loved but all of a sudden she was impregnated by another guy.
“It’s a true story, because she was not faithful and the incident inspired me to come up with this song.â€
DJ Matt grew up in Norton and started music in 2011 and drew his inspiration from David Chifunyise and internationally acclaimed Eminem.
He became popular through a ZTV programme YGT under the programme called voice box and Zim hip hop report.
“I felt honoured when I was number one out of seven competitors on voice box.
“I have released a single gospel hip hop track entitled ‘Mweya yetsvina’ and the track did well on Power FM gospel chat before it made it into the top 50 last year.â€
According to DJ Matt, he is facing challenges of lack of promoters in the music industry.
“Lack of promoters has hindered my progress but I thank God and family members who have been loyal in supporting me.
“It’s unfortunate that some see me as an upcoming artiste but I am no longer that and it’s just that the genre is yet to be appreciated in the ghetto.
“I am also called a hip hop president in the ghetto and I did a collabo with a dancehall artiste called Cally C of Dangerzone some way back.
“I would like to thank power FM and Star FM for playing my music.â€
DJ Matt is currently working on an album which is set for release in December.
His first album is called Life Yacho and carries 12 tracks including Ghetto Life, Musarove Mai, Ndomutenda Nei, Mahaters and Chitsidzo.
