As excitement surrounding the Netflix adaptation of her best-selling novel The Polygamist continues to dominate social media, acclaimed Zimbabwean author Sue Nyathi this week celebrated her 48th birthday.
Nyathi, one of Zimbabwe’s most celebrated contemporary writers, is renowned for a string of successful titles including A Family Affair, The Golddiggers, An Angel’s Demise and The Polygamist. Her work has earned widespread recognition for its bold storytelling and exploration of complex social issues.

The author is enjoying a career-defining moment following the global premiere of the 22-episode Netflix adaptation of The Polygamist. The series has generated widespread acclaim, with audiences, celebrities, fellow writers and critics praising both the production and Nyathi’s storytelling.
Amid the celebrations surrounding the show’s success, Nyathi took time to mark her personal milestone on June 23, delighting fans with a light-hearted social media post.
“Happy 48th birthday to me! Just like Jonasi, I am having my cake and eating it too,” she wrote on X, sharing a popular image of Jonasi Gomora (S’dumo Mtshali), the series’ central character, enjoying a cake in one of the show’s memorable scenes.
The witty post quickly resonated with followers, many of whom flooded her timeline with birthday wishes while congratulating her on the global success of The Polygamist.
