adminBruce Hobson, the Cheetahs team manager said 15 players have been called up with three set to be dropped before the team’s departure for South Africa on Thursday.
The players who will not make it into the final squad will join the national select side the Goshawks who are also participating in the two-day rugby fiesta.
Coach Gilbert Nyamutsamba will take the Cheetahs through the training sessions before a decision is made on the players to be axed from the squad.
Hobson outlined that as much as they are looking at doing well at the tournament, they are looking at the bigger picture, which is getting into the right gear for the International Rugby Board Sevens Rugby World Cup qualifiers set for Morocco next week.
“We have 15 players going into camp in Harare but we are only taking 12 players so those who do not make it into the Cheetahs will be drafted into the Goshawks.
“Middelburg is a training tournament for us and we are looking at trying combinations as we prepare for the World Cup qualifiers in Morocco,” said Hobson.
Nyamutsamba will have at his disposal some of the finest players in the form of Germany-based Gardner Nechironga, Fortune Chipendu, United Kingdom- based Justin Coles, Tangai Nemadire, Gerald Sibanda, Daniel Hondo, Njabulo Ndlovu and Wesley Mbanje.
The new players called up are Sables flyhalf Lenience Tambwera, Lucky Sithole and Steve Hundodzu.
