IT was a bad start to the Rugby Africa Solidarity Sevens Camp for the Zimbabwe national sevens rugby in Stellenbosch, South Africa when the Cheetahs lost all the three matches they played yesterday.
Zimbabwe were beaten 24-0 by Kenya, lost 28-10 to the South Africa Rugby Sevens Academy before they were hammered 29-7 by the South African first team.
In the last match of the day, Shingirai Katsvere scored Zimbabwe’s only try of the clash, which was converted by Boyd Rouse but the Daniel Hondo-coached Cheetahs were soundly beaten by the Neil Powell-mentored Blitzbokke.
Today, Zimbabwe face off with the South Africa Rugby Sevens Academy, Uganda and another third team of their choice. South Africa and Kenya have already qualified for the Tokyo Olympics while Zimbabwe as well as Uganda have a chance to head off to Japan when they participate in the final qualifying event in Monaco next month. — @Mdawini_29.
