A CHEGUTU farmer is ecstatic after being given the licence to export her agricultural products.
Letwinner Nyagano, 60, received the licence at the Women’s Day commemorations in Chegutu yesterday.
Nyagano is a pig breeder and is passionate about empowering other women who want to venture into agriculture.
She was the first woman to be certified by the Pig Industry Board to use artificial insemination.
When Nyagano went into pig farming, eight years ago, she only had three South African-bred pigs.
Now, she has 89 sows.
“I got assistance from the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, with a loan of US$2 200.
“I used the money to purchase a machine, which makes it easier when preparing feed for the pigs.”
She indicated that she now offers training to other interested farmers.
“I now train farmers from Mozambique, South Africa, Swaziland and Botswana to breed pigs commercially.
“Last week, I trained farmers in Matabeleland.
“I want to appeal to women to take up the opportunity.
“I usually train farmers from other countries as those from my province take the project for granted.
“Most women might think this is a dirty job but that is where the money is.
“It is important to take advantage of social media to market your products.”
Nyagano said she would be exporting 54 pigs to Mozambique tomorrow.
