CHEGUTU Rural District Council (RDC) has started upgrading its Information Communication Technology (ICT) systems to promote transparency and efficiency in data collection, while adding convenience to its services.
The RDC intends to link Norton and Mhondoro-Mubaira sub-offices with the head office to reduce labour.
Speaking to The Herald on the sidelines of a full council meeting in Chegutu recently, Chegutu RDC acting chief executive Mr Admire Machingura said the move would alleviate possible cases of fraud.
“We are upgrading our ICT systems. Our RDC is computerised and we are using pastel, but our main challenge is that our people in sub-offices have to come here for data capturing and this is what we want to avoid,” he said.
“Our sub-offices in Norton and Mhondoro-Mubaira are going to be linked to the head office so that whenever someone makes a payment in Mhondoro-Mubaira, it should reflect in our accounts at the head office. This, I believe, will go a long way in eliminating cases of fraud.”
Mr Machingura said ICT systems have the ability to streamline communication both internally and externally.
He hopes that the ICT upgrade will help them to connect effortlessly with suppliers and help them preserve information.
“Through the upgrading of our ICT system, we are guaranteed of efficiency at lower costs as the upgrade may streamline our operational and managerial processes,” said Mr Machingura.
