Chegutu Municipality town clerk, Mr Alex Mandigo, has died.

He was 57.

Mr Brian Nkiwane, the council’s spokesperson, confirmed the untimely death of Mandigo.

“It is with a heavy heart to announce the untimely death of our Town Clerk, Mr Alex Mandigo,” said Mr Nkiwane.

“We are still waiting for the family members and doctors to confirm the cause of the death. For now, I can’t say it’s Covid-19 related.”

The council lost its deputy mayor, Maphius Shumba, who collapsed and died on Monday last week and was buried at his rural home in Mberengwa.

Mr Mandigo was on 9 March 2021 suspended by Chegutu Municipality Mayor Mr Henry Muchatibaya from his duties with immediate effect on full salary and benefits to pave way for investigations of various service delivery concerns and allegations of incompetence according to Section 139 (a) of the Urban Councils Act.
