Chegutu singer fights sexual abuse

A CHEGUTU-based rising Afro gospel musician has blasted sexual perverts who prey on vulnerable individuals.

Emmanuel “Manu” Mawoyo believes cases of sexual abuse can be fought through music, which has a wide reach.

He said he was inspired to take up music by the rising cases of drug and sexual abuse.

“Crimes against humanity inspired me to sing since I believe some of these cases need to be addressed through music.

“I compose some of my lyrics from things happening in society every day.

“For example, my next song, Ndinovimba Nemi, was inspired by people’s daily struggles.

“As musicians, we have to be loud in addressing issues affecting society,” he said.

Manu, who started his musical journey as a dancehall artist, believes gospel music can change the world.

“I changed from singing dancehall because I had a calling to gospel music.

“Another issue is that dancehall was not appreciated in my home town.

“In 2016, I produced my debut album which was received mildly although it was better than the previous released during the dancehall days.

“I then released a single track in 2019, called Zvamakavimbisa, and it was received well in my home town of Chegutu.”

He added:

“It was my breakthrough but, due to lack of resources, I was forced to take a break.

“I am back with a new track, featuring Deidre Botha called Munondigonera, which was recorded at Lu Dase studios.

“I also need to thank Quadyjay Celestial and Christec Media, who have been giving me a helping hand in my comeback.

“Shanduko Project have also been there in my music journey,” he said.
