POLICE in Chegutu have arrested a 52-year-old woman on allegations of killing her four-year-old granddaughter in what is suspected to be a ritual killing in Shurugwi.

The suspect, Veronica Mudzipuri, who is an artisanal miner, is alleged to have poisoned the minor, Tawanayasha Kadhene, by lacing her maheu drink with a maize pesticide pill.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the arrest on its X handle, saying investigations were underway.

Police said Mudzipuri allegedly cut flesh from her granddaughter’s cheek, which she mixed with herbs prescribed by a traditional healer.

She reportedly cooked and ate the concoction. Mudzipuri is expected to appear in court soon on murder charges.
