Chemukute High take Ngezi South football title

The tournament, which is the brainchild of Ngezi South constituency House of Assembly member Bright Matonga, attracted thousands of people.
Matonga was the guest of honour.
“This is good for school children as they have managed to interact and it gives them exposure,” said Matonga.
“The tournament has grown, we used to take a few schools on board but now we have stretched to far away places like Kadoma.
“We are also grateful to the sponsors, Zimplats, who will be on board for the next two years.”
He said sport had the potential to build character.
“Sports builds children’s character and winning is a bonus.
“I was very impressed with the talent I saw today and we are looking forward to organising a Ngezi Select and introducing girls’ soccer as well,” Matonga said.
Chemukute overpowered Benhura in an exciting game after the two teams had been deadlocked in regulation time.
Chemukute scored in the last minute of extra-time, in a smash-and-grab raid, courtesy of a priceless goal by Nhlanhla Falala.
The team pocketed US$ 500 and a full kit.
The tournament also featured competition in athletics and volleyball.
Ngezi barracks won the netball tournament when they beat Nyika in the final.
The winners took home US$300 while the losers pocketed US$250.
Constance Kazingizi was voted player of the tournament.
Ngezi Barracks also managed to win the boys’ volleyball tournament as they beat St Michael’s in the final.
The hosts, Ngezi High, won the girls’ edition of the volleyball tournament when they edged Chemukute in the final.
