THE Zimbabwe senior men’s cricket team will go into camp at Harare Sports Club today to prepare for the ICC World Twenty20 set for India from March 8 to April 3.

The squad is due to leave the country for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Friday.

Zimbabwe will play Hong Kong, Scotland and Afghanistan in the qualifying stage of the tournament. They will only face the big boys, Sri Lanka, England, West Indies and South Africa, in Group 1 in the second round if they manage to top the qualifying group.

Prior to the tournament, the Chevrons will play three warm up matches against the West Indies and a local select team in Sharjah in the UAE. The Chevrons will then play Ireland in India before the World Twenty20.

Zimbabwe Cricket convener of selectors Kenyon Ziehl said: “The boys will start camp on Tuesday (today) and they’ll leave for the UAE on Friday where they’ll play two friendly matches. ZC will foot the bill whilst they are there, including accommodation.”

ZC named a 15-member squad on Saturday after the T20 tournament final at Queens Sports Club, with Hamilton Masakadza as the captain.

Tendai Chatara was also recalled to the team and joins regulars Sikandar Raza, Sean Williams, Graeme Cremer, Malcolm Waller, Tinashe Panyangara and Elton Chigumbura in the mix.

The Chevrons open their account with Hong Kong on March 8 at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur.
