ZIMBABWE Women Select cricket team bounced back from a defeat on Wednesday evening to register a 37 runs win over Durham County Cricket Club Women to secure a 2-1 series win at Harare Sports Club yesterday.
The series was tied at one-all going into yesterday’s decider and the hosts put up a brilliant bowling display that helped them cross the line, having set the visitors a paltry target.
Zimbabwe Women Select were sent in to bat first and were restricted to 119/6 in 20 overs with Loreen Tshuma top scoring. They went on to bowl out Durham Women for 82 runs in 17.5 overs to secure victory with 13 balls remaining.
Zimbabwe Women Select did not have the best of starts with the bat as they lost their first wicket in the second over with Chiedza Dhururu caught for one run off four deliveries. Kelis Ndhlovu was the next to fall in fourth over for 21 runs, leaving Zimbabwe on 30/2.
There was a 62-runs third wicket partnership between Tshuma and Kate Ebrahim before the former was bowled for 31 runs off 39 balls in the 16th over with the hosts now on 92/3. Zimbabwe Women Select went on to lose three more wickets in quick succession.
Beloved Biza was the fourth to fall, caught for 23 runs followed by Runyararo Pasipanodya (three runs) and Kelly Ndiraya (two runs). Ebrahim finished unbeaten on 20 runs off 11 deliveries.
Katie Levick did the most damage with the ball for Durham, finishing with figures of 3/11 in four overs while Sophia Turner took two for 28 in four overs as well. Katherine Fraser took the other wicket that fell.
After a 42-runs opening wicket partnership, there was nothing else to write home about from Durham’s batting as the hosts picked up wickets at regular intervals.
