Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza believes the confidence gained from recent success across formats will give the Chevrons belief as they begin a three-match T20 International series against Bangladesh on Wednesday.
Zimbabwe head into the shortest format on the back of a memorable home campaign which saw them defeat Bangladesh in the Test and ODI series, results Raza says have strengthened the team’s belief that they can compete against any opposition.
The first T20I presents a new challenge, with both teams looking to shift focus from the longer formats and adapt to the high intensity and fast-paced nature of T20 cricket.
“Certainly, that adds a lot of happiness and confidence in the camp,” said Raza.
“After the World Cup, I think the Test series, the Test win and the ODI series win has certainly helped us get a bit more belief that regardless of which nation we play, we can win.
“So, it’s quite nice to be going into a T20 series against a very good Bangladesh side. We are really excited and looking forward to it. It’s going to be a very exciting series.
“These are two countries that play very good cricket, so expect some fireworks and most importantly, very entertaining cricket,” said the Zimbabwe captain.
The Zimbabwe skipper expects the intensity levels to rise in the T20 format but believes the team’s growing culture and unity will remain a key strength.
“The intensity should be higher because it’s a T20 competition, but I think we’re building a very nice culture and we have built a very nice culture in the changing room,” said Raza.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh captain Towhid Hridoy believes his side can bounce back after their disappointing results in the Test and ODI series.
“If we play good cricket, then it will be good for us and we know what kind of mistakes we did.
“Hopefully, we will reduce this kind of mistake and focus on this format,” said Hridoy.
