HAVING suffered a heavy defeat to Bangladesh in the only Test, Zimbabwe will look for a change in fortunes when the two teams clash in the first of three One Day International Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Sylhet today.
Zimbabwe lost the first Test by an innings and 106 runs at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, which was a disappointing result since the Chevrons had been expected to carry that fine display from the two Tests against Sri Lanka at home.
The tour now moves to the shorter format of the game with the two teams to clash in three ODIs in Sylhet prior to them meeting in two Twenty20 Internationals in Dhaka.
Chamunorwa Chibhabha was appointed Zimbabwe’s captain for the shorter formats of the game on an interim basis. The new skipper, who has not represented his country since October 2018 knows very well that he will be under the spotlight and has to perform to first of all guarantee his place in the team lest the decision to appoint him captain will be laughable.
Selectors also called up Under-19 star, Wesley Madhevere who if carefully looked after has the ability to become a brilliant all rounder in international cricket.
Test captain, Sean Williams, who missed the five-day contest as he had to stay at home for the birth of his child has joined the team for the ODIs and T20Is.
Chibhabha, Madhevere, Williams, Tinashe Kamunhukamwe and Richmond Mutumbami are players who have been brought in for the shorter versions with Prince Masvaure, Kevin Kasuza, Regis Chakabva, Victor Nyauchi as well as Brian Mudzinganyama having returned home after the Test match.
On their last tour of Bangladesh, Zimbabwe were beaten 3-0 in the ODI series, something they would like to avoid this time around.
