Chitungwiza Municipality’s health department has so far interviewed 12 nurses, with nine of them passing their interviews, it has been learnt. The municipal’s director of health and environmental services, Dr Tonderai Kasu, said interviews for the 24 short-listed candidates that applied would be conducted in two batches.
“The response we received was overwhelming and we shortlisted 24 interviewees. We have since divided the shortlisted interviewees into two batches, with the first having been completed on Monday (November 6). Nine out of 12 so far passed the interviews and we are set to recruit them. The remaining 12 will be dealt with next week, and it means those who are going to make it will be placed in different areas that include maternity, expanded programme, immunisation and community health,” said Dr Kasu.
For the HIV treatment programme, Chitungwiza does not normally experience staff shortages as they often get complementary staff from their partners and donors.
“Recently we recruited a matron, medical laboratory technician and pharmaceutical technician. Besides, we are also going to flight an advert for another post, which is the clinical manager,” he said.
The move to recruit 17 nurses was announced recently as the council moves to ease staff shortages. Currently, the town is operating with 70 nurses employed at its four clinics in Seke North, Seke South, Zengeza and St Mary’s, whose cumulative population is more than 400 000 people. Ideally, Chitungwiza, which has since been given a ministerial directive to recruit 32 curses, needs 120 nurses.
