Chicken Inn hauled to abandoned match hearing

CHICKEN INN will be hoping for a favourable outcome when they appear before the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) Disciplinary Committee (DC) following their abandoned match against Scottland on May 23.

The club confirmed yesterday that they are set for the hearing, though they declined to comment further.

The Gamecocks players protested a last-minute penalty awarded to Scottland when the match was goalless. The decision followed an incident in which a volley from Scottland captain Walter Musona was blocked by Chicken Inn defender Dominic Jaricha, allegedly using his arm. The situation quickly escalated as Chicken Inn players confronted the referee, creating a volatile atmosphere. Club officials and security personnel attempted to defuse the tension.

“As of now, we cannot comment. The matter is before the league’s disciplinary structures. Our position is contained in the reports submitted to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League,” Club secretary-general Tavengwa Hara said.

In a statement released yesterday, the PSL said: “The charges against Chicken Inn include disorderly conduct, failure by players and officials to comply with lawful orders, disturbing the normal proceedings of a match, and causing the abandonment of a match.

“Additionally, Chicken Inn player George Majika has also been summoned to appear before the Disciplinary Committee on allegations of disorderly conduct and failure to comply with lawful orders. The disciplinary hearings will be held at the PSL offices on Thursday, 26 June 2025.”

Chicken Inn have endured a difficult start to the season and are yet to register a home win in the seven matches played at Luveve Stadium.

From 14 matches, the Xolani “Lolo” Ndlovu-captained side has collected just 13 points in a campaign marred by inconsistent performances. Goals and points have been hard to come by, and the dry spell is beginning to wear thin on the Gamecocks faithful.

Despite the challenges, the club has maintained that it will remain patient in pursuit of results.
