CHICKEN Inn Football Club coach Prince Matore says victory against Caps United at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday could be the tonic his side needs to get their 2023 Castle Lager Premier Soccer league campaign on track.
His side has not struggled against Caps United in recent years, but Matore knows this is a different Green Machine.
Going into this one, Caps United are top of the table with Makepekepe undefeated this season with three wins and two draws in five matches.
Chicken Inn on the other hand are winless in their last three matches having played out three consecutive stalemates. They have only won once this season and drawn four of their five fixtures.
Matore is looking forward to the meeting wth the high flying Green Machine.
“They are on top of the table and therefore they will come here strong. So we will have to work hard to get what we want. We cannot say our record this season is good but at least we have something.
“There is a promise we can do better. What is important is for us to give our best, start, and continue winning games. What is important is for us to win games. The two derbies were tough which shows our league is improving. It’s not an easy league, everyone is targeting the top spot,” said Matore.
Asked if he is worried about the start his side has had, Matore said: “We are only four points behind the leaders, and this is a marathon.”
He went on to say, except for Calum English Brown who is struggling with an injury, all of his other troops were ready to do battle on Sunday. The coach has made it clear they are aiming to win the championship this season. Victory against Caps United could be a strong message to the rest of the topflight sides.
The big question is will the Gamecocks continue their dominance over Caps United?
Last season Chicken Inn completed a double over Caps United. It ended one nil in favour of Chicken Inn in Harare and 2-1 in Bulawayo. The previous season Chicken Inn won 1-0 in Bulawayo and 3-1 in Harare.
Caps United’s last victory against the Gamecocks was in 2018.
