THE Tsholotsho Road Rehabilitation Initiative (TRRI) has received a further boost after Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Richard Moyo pledged US$2 000 towards the project.
Chairperson of the Landa John Nkomo Trust Cde Jabulani Nkomo also pledged US$2 000, while Tsholotsho South legislator Cde Musa Ncube pledged 1 000 litres of diesel towards the initiative.
The pledges were made over and above the 5 000 litres of diesel donated by the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) through its Community Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The pledges were announced during the official launch of the TRRI by Minister Moyo at Nyamandlovu Business Centre last week.
The community-driven initiative seeks to rehabilitate a 65km stretch of the Bulawayo-Tsholotsho Road, with local communities taking an active role in improving the road’s condition.
The road is an important link between Bulawayo and Tsholotsho, serving communities, businesses and motorists who rely on it for the movement of people and goods.
The initiative is expected to complement Government’s efforts to improve the country’s road network through community participation and partnerships with various stakeholders.
The additional financial and fuel support is expected to assist the initiative in increasing the pace of rehabilitation works along the targeted stretch that has a 60 day completion deadline.
Speaking at the launch, Minister Moyo commended community members and stakeholders for coming together to support the rehabilitation programme, saying community participation was critical in addressing infrastructure challenges.
The initiative is part of broader efforts by communities in Matabeleland North to take ownership of development programmes and complement Government interventions aimed at improving road infrastructure and enhancing connectivity.
Stakeholders have called on more individuals, companies and organisations to support the initiative to ensure that the targeted 65km stretch is rehabilitated and remains accessible to motorists.
