Chicken Inn to retain players

CHICKEN Inn FC have passed a vote of confidence in their coaching department and will soon be handing them new contracts. Joey Antipas has been at the helm and his contract ends at the end of the year with that of his assistants Sikhumbuzo Banda, Pearson Matore and Siza Ndlovu.

Club secretary Tawengwa Hara confirmed from his plot in Figtree that the coaches had done well to warrant a contract extension.

“We’re happy with the turnaround under Joey and we’ve resolved to give them another contract. They did well and we hope they’ll continue doing well for the club,” said Hara.

Antipas replaced Mandla Mpofu who moved to Bantu Rovers.

The club struggled for a while as they could not find combinations following the departure of key players Kudakwashe Mahachi, Tendai Ndoro and Felix Chindungwe. But they patiently worked with the material at their disposal and soldiered on.

Lawrence Mhlanga, a tall defender whose stock is rising with each outing, was among the club’s finds of the year.

His defensive qualities were notable and when he ventured forward he weighed in with crucial goals that kept the club in the hunt.

Hara expressed hope that the club would do better next season.

“We’re looking forward to a better year. We’ll support our technical department and we hope positive results will come our way so that we challenge for honours,” said the long serving football administrator, one of a few still left in the game from the 1990s.

Hara is now a Zifa board member.
