ZPC Kariba coach Sunday “Mhofu” Chidzambwa believes they are just one victory away from securing their place in the domestic Premiership. The Kariba side, who at one stage appeared to be in trouble, have transformed themselves and have now moved into ninth place on the table. They hammered Dongo Sawmill 4-1 at the weekend. “After this game (Dongo Sawmill weekend’s victory), we will need to win one more game and we will take away all this pressure from us,” said Chidzambwa.
“If a top-eight finish is achievable, we would love it. If we can afford it we will go for it. But, at least, the big job has been done.” ZPC Kariba will host Chapungu in their next league encounter. The Kariba side will then make another trip to Manicaland to face relegation troubled Buffaloes.
They will then host Hwange and complete their season with an away match against Highlanders. Chidzambwa, who is likely to stay at the club for a another season, after joining the team midway through the season, could not be drawn to reveal whether he has started identifying players he might want to strengthen the club.
“We don’t have any preparation programme yet, we have to finish the season first,” said Chidzambwa. “But I am impressed with the team’s performance in this second half of the season, where they have done reasonably well considering that we managed to pick maximum points, four games in a row, it wasn’t easy.”
Meanwhile, Whawha coach Lloyd Mutasa said they will continue to battle in the remaining games and, if they are going to be relegated, they will go down with honour. Whawha will be at home against Chicken Inn in their next league match and then travel to Harare for a date against Harare City.
They will then engage fellow relegation candidates Flame Lily and take on CAPS United in what could be their last supper. Mutasa said, with their destiny no longer in their hands, and their fate as good as sealed, they will just have to be professional in their last matches. “We still have some crucial matches against title-chasing teams but we are very professional and going to execute our duties professionally,” said Mutasa.
“We will play our games competitively as football is not going to end after these remaining four matches. “Even if we are going back to Division One we want to go gracefully. “I always tell these youngsters that you never know who is watching you and what will happen next so it is important that you always give your best.”
