Chidzivo retains Vumba half marathon title

FORTUNATE Chidzivo underlined her status as one of the leading female distance runners in the country yesterday when she retained the Old Mutual Vumba half marathon title.

Chidzivo, who went into the race as the defending champion, romped to victory in 1 hour 24 minutes 24 seconds.

She was followed by Miriam Sibanda with a time of 1 hour 26 minutes 54 seconds.

Nobuhle Chuma was third in 1 hour 27 minutes 4 seconds.

In the men’s category Isaac Langat was the first to cross the finish line 1 hour 10 minutes 9 seconds.

It was a closely contested race with last year’s winner Moses Tarakinyu coming second in 1 hour 10 minutes 22 seconds.

Wayne Kabondo finished third in 1 hour 10 minutes 34 seconds.

Winners in both the men’s and women’s categories received $1 000.

In the 10km race Dick Andrew came first in 36 minutes 45 seconds while Author Chitara was second in 38 minutes 51 seconds.

Peter Tauzeni finished third in 39 minutes 22 seconds.

The women’s race was won by Melody Kaseke in 44 minutes 19 seconds.

Angela Moyo placed second in 49 minutes 49 seconds, and Maryjoy Mudyiravanji came third in 50 minutes 37 seconds.

Mthabisi Moyo and Thobekile Ncube were the 5km event winners in the men’s and women’s sections, respectively.

Moyo won the race in 16 minutes 12 seconds and Ncube posted a time of 20 minutes 13 seconds.
