National Traffic Police spokesperson confirmed the accident which occurred after Shamva turn-off near a bridge along the highway.
“Chiedza’s car, a Rav 4 is said to have been trying to overtake a Toyota Hiace commuter omnibus and sideswiped with the commuter omnibus leading it to overturn killing her on the spot,” he said.
Chiedza was on her way to their home at Blue Ridge in Christon Bank.
Inspector Tigere Chigome said passengers in the commuter omnibus escaped with minor injuries.
A family spokesperson said mourners are gathered at the Mukambas’ Blue Ridge farm.
Chiedza (33) is the second daughter of James Makamba, a former Telecel boss who is in self-imposed exile in Egypt.
Transport, Communication, and Infrastructral Development secretary Mr Pattison Mbiriri said Government will strive to make the festive season accident free while urging transporters to adhere to traffic laws and regulations.
Mr Mbiriri said Government was in the process of reversing State assisted funeral for accident victims and making the operators liable.
Transport operators whose vehicles cause accidents would bear the responsiblity to assist relatives burying their victims.
In the past Government used to assist families of the people who perish in road accidents.
Government is concerned with the increase of accidents during holidays and the loss of lives.
In the past accidents claiming many people were declared national disasters.
