CHIEF Sikobokobo of Nkayi, Matabeleland North has called on the government to urgently rehabilitate dilapidated roads that have been destroyed by heavy rains.
Speaking at the election victory celebrations at Gambinya Primary School for Nkayi North MP, Cde Sithembiso Nyoni, who is also Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Chief Sikobokobo said most of the roads in his area were impassable after heavy rains swept away bridges and opened gullies.
“Some bridges have been destroyed by the excessive rains and buses are no longer using the routes. I’m appealing to the Minister to take immediate action in addressing the issue,” he said.
Chief Sikobokobo said in some areas the rains were washing away crops.
He also took time to praise President Mugabe saying he was God-sent and should be respected.
Low-lying areas like Tokwe-Mukosi in Masvingo and Tsholotsho in Matabeleland North were flooded by the torrential rains.
On Wednesday, a high powered ministerial delegation led by the Minister of State in the President’s Office, Cde Simon Khaya Moyo visited Tsholotsho to assess the damage and render aid to the flood victims.
