Chief Chiweshe died last week after he was attacked by wild bees.
Governor Dinha said Chief Chiweshe was a unifier who ruled subjects from both the Zanu-PF and MDCs.
“As we are going towards elections it should be noted that violence will not be tolerated. Gone are the days of violence.

“Zimbabweans are educated and are not expected to be violent. It is the right of everyone to choose a political party of his choice and one should not force people to support any party,” he said.
Governor Dinha said development could only be enhanced if there was peace.

“Development cannot be achieved through violence, killing each other and drinking beer but it is brought by peace,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to the 1 000 mourners whom he said were reflective of how the late chief related with people in his community. The burial was also attended by Home Affairs co-Minister Theresa Makone, service chiefs, senior Government officials and members of the Salvation Army.

“Your huge turnout is a reflection of how the chief related with other members of the society,” he said.
Governor Dinha said he was concerned with the welfare of chiefs whom he said were looked down upon by people even those in Government.

President of the Chief’s Council Chief Fortune Charumbira said it was disturbing that most people looked down upon chiefs as uneducated and uncivilised people.

“Chiefs should be respected as they were not elected. They do not have a term of office that expires. Their positions are permanent,” he said.

Chief Charumbira said some ministers were in the habit of challenging chiefs and disobeying them.
Chief Chiweshe, Joseph Chigariro, was born in 1936. He is survived by wife Onica, seven children and seven grand children.
