accused of pocketing US$1 000 which he collected from the chief’s subjects whom he fined for committing various offences at his traditional court.
“I have since reported the matter to the police after my headman denied the charges before my court,” said Chief Chireya.
“The matter will now have to be finalised by the courts after police opened a fraud docket against him.
“This was after he had failed to account for about two tonnes of maize he received from villagers as contributions towards Zunde raMambo and about US$1 000 cash
which he has been receiving as fines from the villagers who would have been fined for committing various offences.”
Chief Chireya said Nembudziya failed to account for the maize and cash when he met all his headmen to have an audit of what they had been receiving and receipting since last year.
“When I then called for a meeting and asked them to account for what they have been collecting, Headmen Nembudziya only gave us a long list of farm produce and cash he received from the subjects, but he had converted everything he received to his own use,” he said.
But Nembudziya denied the charges.
“I have handed over everything I collected as contributions towards Zunde raMambo to the chief and I did account for both the crops and cash,” he said.
“He is, however, insisting that some money and maize is missing and the matter is now in the courts.”
