Chief yanked to court over judgment delay

Nyasha Nzara, has taken Chief Munikwa to the Masvingo Civil Court over delays in delivering judgment on a village headship dispute.

The case, filed recently, cites Chief Munikwa and Vengai Nzara as respondents.

Nyasha is seeking an order compelling Chief Munikwa to issue a judgment on the Nzara Village headship dispute, which was deliberated in August 2023.

In his application, Nyasha claims that the delay in producing the judgment prevents him from appealing or seeking a review of the decision.

Nyasha argues that Chief Munikwa’s actions have resulted in Vengai being recognised as the Nzara Village head while disregarding Village Revesai.

He says Village Revesai, founded in the early 1960s by their late grandfather, who served as its head until his death in 1976, has been ignored in the process.

In response, Chief Munikwa denies presiding over a Nzara family dispute and states that he only handled the village head selection process.

Chief Munikwa said that the selection process involved interviews with all clan members to establish a proper succession system.
