ARTHUR “Diego” Musiyiwa’s first half strike was enough to help Bulawayo Chiefs become the Chibuku Super Cup champions at the expense of Herentals at Babourfields yesterday.

It was a game of two halves, which saw Bulawayo Chiefs dominating the first period and Herentals dominating the second period.

Musiyiwa broke the deadlock in the 37th minute capitalising on poor communication of Herentals defenders, firing a powerful shot a few metres from outside the penalty box.

Despite the loss, Herentals coach Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva described it as a learning curve for the Students.

“We are disappointed with the loss, but we took some lessons from the match and hopefully will make it right in the next edition of the tournament.

“We have never been in this situation before,” said Mutiwekuziva.

Bulawayo Chiefs goalkeepers coach Nkosiyazi stood in for coach Thulani Sibanda who left soon after the final whistle.

“It was a bit difficult for us along the way and we are happy to have won the tournamnet.

“It means a lot especially considering the difficulties we faced,” he said.

The final also saw a first being recorded in the history of the tournament as Innocent Benza and his son Tinotenda became the first father-and-son combination to play in the Chibuku Super Cup final.

At 50, Innocent became the oldest player to play in the premium club knockout tourney.
