KAIZER Chiefs boss Bobby Motaung is angry.
He said that after they protected striker Kingstone Nkhatha, he still went behind their backs to sign a pre-contract with SuperSport United.
Motaung was shocked when he found out via a football website that Nkhatha had signed with the Tshwane outfit.
Nkhatha will join “Matsatsantsa A Pitori” on July 1, as his contract with Amakhosi expires on June 30.
Said Motaung: “If someone wants to go to another club he should come forward.
“If he was clear with us we could’ve discussed this matter and ensured he joined them outright. But players don’t talk about these things, and I also found out on the website.
“In Europe, Steven Gerrard (Liverpool captain) came out and made it clear that he was leaving. He didn’t go behind his team’s back to secure a contract with another club.
“I don’t know why players in South Africa do this.”
Motaung admitted that it would be difficult for management to protect the Zimbabwean from the boo boys who made life difficult for him due to his failure to convert clear-cut chances.
“We protected Nkhatha from the supporters and the challenge is now on him going forward. He should have been honest with us, but he wasn’t.
“He is going to be under pressure and I can’t comment on what will happen in the future.”
Chiefs fans started booing him towards the end of 2012/13 season and the trend continued during the 2013/14 season.
As the booing got out of hand head coach Stuart Baxter threatened to quit the club.
Baxter said: “Do I want to keep working at a club where you don’t know if your best players are going to be depressed because of some idiots in the crowd? Maybe I don’t want to do it.”
Although Nkhatha had said booing has had no negative impact on his game, it seems he finally succumbed to pressure from Amakhosi fans.
“I just switch off and I don’t hear that. My focus is playing football,” he was quoted saying at the time. –Online.
