Gweru-based Chapungu Football Club have offered former FC Platinum and Shabanie coach Jairos Tapera a lucrative contract.
He will be the head of the technical department.Chapungu, which survived relegation on the last day of the season despite the Banc Easy sponsored side having resources at its disposal, seek to strengthen their technical department led by John Nyikadzino.
The developments in the Chapungu camp are being viewed as a way of sidelining Nyikadzino by the Airforce of Zimbabwe top leadership.
The experienced gaffer is, however, said to have the backing of the club executive which is said to be resisting Tapera’s appointment.
Chapungu chief executive officer Chris-Levie Mukotekwa confirmed Tapera’s appointment.
He is expected to be unveiled to the team tomorrow.
“I can confirm that we’ve offered a lucrative contract to Jairos Tapera to become head of the technical department at Chapungu where he will be overall in charge.
“I’m meeting Tapera today to finalise his contract and to come up with a title for him. We will either call him technical adviser or technical manager.
“He will be in charge of team selection in consultation with the head coach and we’re confident that he will bring the desired results to the club. If all goes well he will assume his duties on Wednesday,” he said.
The coming in of Tapera could save six senior players who were shown the door by Nyikadzino ahead of the pre-season training at Katanga Shooting Range.
Former captain Callisto Maheya, Talent Mwale, Tawanda Chokuwamba, winger Victor Bangira, former Hardbody goalminder Alexander Useni and striker Brighton Mugoni are the six senior players who could bounce back.
“We’ve not yet come up with a final squad to do duty for us this season and what we have is just a provisional squad which is in camp.
“If the new technical manager feels that they’re good enough they will be recalled,” added Mukotekwa.
