LOCAL Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe has urged traditional leaders, councillors, and local authorities in the Matabeleland region to fully embrace and champion President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030, emphasising that their leadership is vital in transforming Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy.

Speaking during an interface meeting with chiefs, councillors, and town clerks in the region on Thursday, Minister Garwe described Vision 2030 as a national roadmap aimed at fostering inclusive development, economic growth, and improved living standards for all Zimbabweans.

“President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 represents a transformative agenda for Zimbabwe’s economic development and social progress. Chiefs and local authorities play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our country, and their support is crucial in achieving this ambitious goal,” he said.

Minister Garwe noted that the call to action comes at a critical juncture, as Zimbabwe works to overcome economic challenges and build a resilient economy that benefits every citizen. He stressed that by aligning with Vision 2030, local leaders can make meaningful contributions to the growth and development of their communities.

“We believe that by working together and fully embracing President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030, we can create a prosperous and inclusive society where every Zimbabwean has the opportunity to thrive,” said Minister Garwe.

He highlighted the key pillars outlined by President Mnangagwa for achieving Vision 2030, which include economic reform, investment promotion, infrastructure development, and social protection programmes. Minister Garwe emphasised that traditional leaders and local authorities must be at the forefront of implementing policies that foster sustainable economic growth and enhance livelihoods.

“Our collective efforts are vital in realising the Vision 2030 objectives. As leaders, we must seize this opportunity to collaborate, innovate and implement policies that will lead us towards becoming an upper-middle-income economy,” he said.

Minister Garwe reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting the work of local authorities and traditional leadership institutions as partners in advancing the President’s vision.

“Chiefs and local authorities are urged to engage with relevant stakeholders, drive community development projects, and foster an environment conducive to economic growth. Their commitment and dedication to President Mnangagwa’s vision will be instrumental in shaping the future of Zimbabwe and achieving its goal of becoming an upper-middle-income economy by 2030,” he said.

The minister further encouraged leaders to rise above partisan politics and focus on the shared national development agenda.

“We won’t be able to develop this country in terms of Vision 2030 if our focus is on political differences. This is a national vision, hence everybody, regardless of political affiliation, must embrace Vision 2030. Our traditional leaders and our ancestors have endorsed this,” said Minister Garwe.

He added that President Mnangagwa has shown unwavering commitment to improving the country’s infrastructure, investment climate, and social services — key foundations for achieving Vision 2030.

“Traditional leaders and councillors must ensure that this is articulated to the people. We must allow our President to finish what he started. He has been working tirelessly to ensure that the country is on a pathway for economic development and prosperity.”

The meeting forms part of an ongoing series of Government engagements aimed at strengthening collaboration between Central Government, traditional institutions, and local authorities to accelerate the implementation of Vision 2030 across all provinces.
