Chiefs release Nkhatha

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the club has released striker Kingston Nkhatha to join SuperSport United with immediate effect. The Zimbabwean forward signed a pre-contract with Matsatsantsa this month that would have seen him move to Pretoria when his contract with Chiefs expires at the end of the season.

But AmaKhosi clearly do not want a player on his way out of the squad hanging around and have allowed him to leave.

“Kingston Nkhatha is no longer a Glamour Boy and has joined SuperSport United with immediate effect! We wish him all the best!” the club announced via their Twitter feed.

Despite the signing of David Zulu from Chippa United and the imminent return to fitness of Katlego Mphela, it is still a blow for coach Stuart Baxter who values the physical presence of Nkhatha up front.

The forward missed just one of Chiefs’ 22 matches in all competitions so far this season, despite being mercilessly hounded by a segment of the club’s fans from the stands. In all he made 68 starts for the club, scoring 21 goals, since joining from Black Leopards in 2012. — Mzansi Football
