THREE time Mr Zimbabwe Champion “Mbewe” Chienderamwano poured his heart out after last Saturday’s defeat to Ndumiso Dlodlo and two others at 7Arts Theatre. The Gaborone hulk, who was aiming a record fourth title, was placed fourth behind Dlodlo, Edward Mutero and Garikai Mujuru in the senior men bodybuilding. A few days after the painful defeat Chienderamwano took to Facebook to give his side and said he cannot be a judge and an athlete at the same time.
“I am an athlete, not an official, so I cannot speak on their behalf,” he said.
”My job is to bring the best package that I can possibly bring. As a bodybuilder I try to exceed myself. It’s all about beating the previous me, every day I try to look bigger and better than the previous day.
“The placing on the show is the icing on the cake. It’s good to win titles yes! But that’s not the motive. I’m driven by passion not by goal.
”That’s why I keep coming back whether I win or lose.”
The hulk believes there is room for error in one’s judgment as one’s best may not be what the judges will be looking for.
“As long as the verdict is determined by so many principles then there is a wider margin for error. Bodybuilding is too complicated, it’s not like athletics or weightlifting.
”Your best may not be what judges are looking for.
“I look up to guys who have dominated the sport like Dorian Yates whose strengthen was hardness, dryness, thickness, what we call conditioning in bodybuilding terms.
”These has been my strength over the years. That’s the package which I brought again this year. And if my eyes serve me right I think I was the best in that area.
“I haven’t spoken to the chief judge to find out where I fall short but surely I will. Not because I’m bitter, but because I want to improve.
”Yes defeat sucks especially when you bring your best and feels you are on the top of the game. But it happens everywhere, dubious penalties in soccer, undeserved free-kicks and all. There is no need to cry over spilled water.
”The judges know better but the champ will also be the champ,” he added.
