Chigubu to mentor up-and-coming comics

COMEDIAN Clive Chigubu plans to mentor up-and-coming comics in a bid to further promote the genre in Bulawayo. Dubbed Clive Presents, Chigubhu will hold a series of shows in and around Bulawayo where he will introduce the new comics.

International comedians such as America’s Katt Williams and Cedric the Entertainer, who host similar comedy shows in America inspired Chigubu. It is through those shows that brands such as JB Smoove, Katt Williams, Kevin Hart and Chris Rock have been built.

Chigubu who performed at the debut Winter Carnival at Horizon Night Club over the weekend said nurturing young artistes would help Bulawayo to reclaim its position as the country’s hub of the arts.

The first Clive Presents show will be held in August.

Turning to his personal life, Chigubu said he was still single and not searching.

“Everyone wants to settle but I believe my time hasn’t come. I’m single and not yet searching as I’m focusing on building my career to become one, if not the biggest comic in Africa,” said Chigubu.

“When the right time comes, I’ll reveal who my girlfriend is.”

He said, like any other artiste, he aspires to become rich and famous and that takes hard work to achieve.
