Chigumbura says it was awesome

DHAKA. — World Cricket Badger broke the news of the world record List A over where Elton Chigumbura’s Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club scored 39 runs from the final six balls. The 27-year-old Zimbabwean all-rounder, who contributed 32 over the 39 runs with some lusty blows, does not agree with Tilak Raj’s assessment that no one will remember it.

Raj, the bowler struck for six sixes by Ravi Shastri in 1985, feels that his over will be remembered much longer.
Chigumbura said, “I think both overs are the same because we hardly see these scores being scored in one over.

“It was amazing hitting those runs in the last over and most importantly as a team we ended up putting a good score on the board. It was awesome”.

“I didn’t say anything to the bowler after the match”, he added.
In the Dhaka Premier Division match in Mirpur, playing for Abhani Limited, Babu Alauddin’s 39 was the most runs conceded in an over in List A game against Chigumbura’s Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club on Tuesday.

Babu’s last 9-ball over to Chigumbura (including one no ball and two wides) conceded 5,1,6,4,6,4,6,1,6 runs.
Tilak Raj said, “The batsmen are credited more when they hit six sixes in an over. Though my one over in which Ravi Shastri hit six sixes was not memorable on a pleasing note, it is still remembered by many”.

Tilak Raj is now best known for being the unfortunate victim of Ravi Shastri’s bat in 1985, at the time only the second instance of all balls being hit for six in professional cricket.

“Nobody is going to remember that one bowler has given away 39 runs in one over and who was the batsman,” continued Raj. “But if a bowler is hit for six sixes people will remember them both for a longer time. Still people remember Gary Sobers and Malcolm Nash”,
Remembering his own “unwanted” record, Tilak Raj says, I had sleepless nights after the incident. People used to laugh at us but I was shocked when Shastri did this. It was unbelievable but true”. — Cricket Badger.
