Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri has called on Government to provide the force with sufficient resources on time. At the commissioning of new printing equipment for the ZRP, Comm-Gen Chihuri said the force was financially hamstrung when it came to meeting its infrastructure and equipment needs.
“The cut-throat economic environment and the presence of cruel and illegal economic sanctions imposed by the country’s erstwhile colonisers have exacerbated and militated against our operational efficacy,” he said.
Police acquired state-of-the-art printers, a Speedmaster colour printing press and Guillotine machines. Comm-Gen Chihuri, however, said it was encouraging that Government continued to support some of the force’s endeavours and applauded it for supporting the acquisition of the machines.
“Undoubtedly, the provision of sufficient wherewithal is critical for the effective and efficient discharge of our policing mandate,” he said.
Comm-Gen Chihuri said the ZRP magazine, The Outpost, could now be printed internally, and urged officers from the Printers Unit to remain disciplined and shun temptations of dishonesty and corruption in use of the equipment. Senior Staff Officer (Police Printers Unit) Assistant Comm Prudence Chakanyuka assured Comm-Gen Chihuri that they were going to put the machinery to full and good use.
