Former Alick Macheso’s sound engineer Gloria Chikepe stood high as one of the few female engineers in the country when she expertly balanced the sound flow for the sungura maestro’s shows.
Chikepe said it is an honour for her to be amongst the few professional sound engineers in the country.
“I feel great when I realise that I am the only female sound engineer to work with big artistes in the country that include Macheso and Tongai Moyo. It is a challenging job for women but I have done my best,” said Chikepe.
She is currently working with the likes of Douglas Chimbetu, Pastor Charles and Olivia Charamba as well as Peter Moyo.
The 33-year-old engineer said it takes passion and devotion to do the job.
“One can only become a good sound engineer if they are devoted and passionate about the profession.
Chikepe did a two-year course in engineering between 2005 and 2006 with National Training and Conferencing of Arts in Zimbabwe and narrates how she met Macheso.
“I managed to get an attachment at Macheso’s band and I worked with the group for a long time even after completing the attachment. I then became a freelancer and worked with an organisation that grooms upcoming artistes for two years.
Chikepe is one of the founders of Sound Association Board that was established recently.
