LYNOTH CHIKUHWA is hoping familiar territory can help him rediscover his scoring mojo after an indifferent period at Scottland.
The striker won the Golden Boot award when he notched 17 goals for Highlanders last year and spiced it all up by clinching the Soccer Star of the Year runners-up medal.
His stats convinced Scottland to go for him and he subsequently penned a two-year deal with the Mabvuku team.
However, he has not been able to retain those predatory instincts at the championship-chasing side, scoring just once for onderai Ndiraya charges.
As a result, game time hasn’t been coming often for him at the star-studded team and he has now been loaned to Chicken Inn for the remainder of the season.
And he is looking to make the most of his short stay at the Gamecocks as he hopes the familiar Bulawayo settings will help him focus more on his game.
The forward will not have to worry about shuttling between Harare and the City of Kings to see his family like he has been doing.
“Well, yeah, maybe that will help me as well. I already know a lot about Chicken Inn since I was at Highlanders and they were our neighbours.
‘‘I know their system and almost everything about them. Chicken Inn players are also my friends naturally because we spent a lot of time together when we were not playing the game. So this is home for me so to speak.
“I don’t think I really flopped but I was trying hard at Scottland. Things didn’t work out the way I thought they would.
“But I think the next six months will be crucial for me. I am at Chicken Inn on loan. I hope to get game time, I will work very hard for that and be able to help Scottland thereafter.”
Chikuhwa will not be without personnel who also know how he plays and make him thrive as he once formed a solid combination with Elshamar Farasi, who is now one of the key figures at Chicken Inn.
“Yes, there is Farasi who I played with for a long time during our days at Bosso. There are also a lot of players that I grew up with and played at junior level with.
Last season, the second half of the season was particularly successful for me. I scored more than half of the 17 goals in the second phase. I am hoping to replicate that form but the goal obviously is to deliver the targets for the team.”
