‘Chikwata will be back’

CASH-STRAPPED Zimbabwe Saints, who were expelled from the Southern Region Division One after they failed to pay their affiliation fees, say they will bounce back a stronger unit.
Saints secretary-general Jabulani Chinyangarara said they will start from the lower league and focus on developing junior players.
“We are going back to the drawing board to map the way forward, but the truth is that our coffers are dry and as a community team things were not going well for us.

“As long as things remain like this it will be difficult for us but our thrust is now on (the) junior ranks so that we can nurture talent, especially in the lower leagues.
“We will be very happy if there are partners who may feel that there is need to revive the team . . . They are welcome but we will concentrate on grassroots for development purposes,” Chinyangarara said.

Chikwata, champions of Zimbabwe in 1988, were thrown out of Division One as they struggled to get funds to fund their operations.
Saints were given until Monday 19 May, to pay an estimated US$5 000, including affiliation fees, they owe the Division One League.

The team did not fulfil four matches against Tsholotsho FC, Mpumalanga, Black Boots and Portland Cement.
