Child abuse leads to death

IN a tragic case of suspected child abuse, a couple from Zvimba allegedly killed their four-year-old niece and seriously injured her six-year-old sister.

It was alleged that John Zvivi and his wife, Lister Sibanda, assaulted the children on multiple occasions using electric cables.

The body of the four-year-old was found in a sack with a deformed face. 

The couple is currently on the run, and the police have launched a manhunt to apprehend them.

“The ZRP is appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of John Zvivi and Lister Sibanda of Vantage area, Zvimba, who are being sought in connection with a case of murder in which their niece, Princes Shoko (4) was found dead.

“The suspects were allegedly seen by neighbours assaulting the victim and her sister (6) on several occasions using electric cables and switches.

“The other victim is currently admitted to a local hospital where she is receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the assault by the suspects. Anyone with information to report at any nearest Police Station,” police said in a statement.

In another case, a 29-year-old man from Mvurwi beat up his seven-year-old daughter to death with an iron rod for soiling herself. 

Tinashe John allegedly subjected the child to a merciless beating, resulting in her death. 

John attempted to bury the child secretly, but the police received a tip-off and unearthed the body, leading to John’s arrest.
