A Hatcliffe couple arrested for allegedly killing their one-month-old daughter has appeared in court.

Fortunate Muchenje, 35, and Joseph Bondoro, 29, were advised to approach the High Court for bail application when they appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi.

They will be back in court on March 8 for routine remand.

It is alleged that on January 17, at around 1pm, the couple was spotted drinking beer at Jadabvu Shops in Hatcliffe with their baby, Kelly Bondoro.

At around 6pm on the same day, Fortunate was heard crying at their house, alleging that Joseph had hurt their child.

The State said Joseph was nowhere to be found. It is alleged further that Fortunate then took the baby to her mother-in-law, who realised that the baby was already dead.

The matter was reported to the police leading to the couple’s arrest.

The baby had bruises on the nose and right hand, and had a laceration wound on the back of her head. The baby’s right ear was also missing.

Essel Zinhiva appeared for the State.
