Child parliamentarians have called on the Government to include children’s rights in the curriculum to curb incidences of abuse.
This came out during a dialogue between various stakeholders in the education sector and the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Education.
The dialogue was held in conjunction with Mashambanzou Trust.
“Government should do more to raise awareness of children’s rights in the curriculum as part of efforts to curb abuse and the risk of early pregnancies,” Child MP, Stacey Mapfuti said.
Stakeholders also urged the Government to upscale the Schools’ Feeding Programme and the construction of more schools to increase enrolment.
Authorities were also urged to promote peer-to-peer education and the involvement of children with disabilities.
