MOURNERS at Baobab suburb in Hwange were reportedly forced to bury a woman in the absence of her children after they boycotted the burial citing that she never showed them love when she was alive.
Everest Mukulias four children reportedly refused to attend her burial.
A family source who spoke on condition of anonymity said Mukulia?s children revealed that their motheras death did not make any difference in their lives.
a?Mukuli died on 5 March after a short illness.
a?As the norm, friends and relatives gathered, but none of her children turned up and mourners gathered for a week expecting them to come.
a?They never turned up and their uncle had to phone them asking for a way forward and that is when they said she should be buried in their absence.
a?They openly declared that they were not moved by her death as she dumped them when they were young and therefore had a painful upbringing,a? said the source.
The now deceasedas brother Jersey Mukuli confirmed the incident.
a?We buried her in the absence of her children because they refused to attend.
a?It is really sad and whatever reasons they had, I do not think my dead sisteras spirit will ever forgive them for their actions.
a?We were left with no choice and there was nothing we could have done because there is no way you can force people to attend a funeral,a? he said.
The now deceasedas first born Marko said he did not have a mother.
a?I do not know what you are talking about and in my life I have never had a mother,a? he said.
The other child only identified as Gladys said they had their own reasons.
a?It is true that we never attended our motheras burial and we have reasons to justify our behaviour.
a?I will have to talk to my brothers before I discuss the issue with you.a?
Efforts to get more details from Gladys hit a snag as her phone was continuously unreachable.
