VETERAN music promoter Partson Chimbodza of Chipaz Promotions has lashed out at musicians for not supporting each other. Chimbodza fumed following a poor turnout at Progress Chipfumo’s (pictured) album launch on Wednesday held at City Sports Bar. “Where is the musician who sang ‘Sekuru sei kundiita homwe yamashavi’? And where is the one who sang ‘Kana iri kete, ikete pakete?’ You see this is very bad and it shows that our musicians do not support each other. Instead of coming together some chose to snub the event,” Chimbodza said in reference to Jah Prayzah and Alick Macheso.
The only musicians who were present at the album launch were Tryson Chimbetu, Romeo Gasa, Obvious Mutani, Liversy Matamba, Dino Mudondo and Clive “Mono” Mkundu.
Chipfumo aka Progie took a five-year “sabbatical” from the music scene and the new album titled “Hold My Hand” announced his return.
“Progie is back and believe you me it’s the ‘real’ Sounds of the Motherland which you have come to love over the years. This is a surprise package and a vote of thanks going out to all my fans countrywide for their unwavering support. I was in a delicate situation with my health over the past years that at one point I was forced to shelve some of my projects,” he said.
“Hold My Hand” was recorded and produced by renowned guitarist Clive “Mono” Mukundu at his Monolio Studios. Chipfumo said it had been five years since he released an album.
“It has been a long time because I was focusing on family,” he said.
Progie rose to fame with his several hits including “Nhaka”, “Vanochema”, “Garwe” and “Papi Zvapo”. His last album “Tsiurika” features the hit “Anochema”. He has shared the stage with big names like Alick Macheso, Oliver Mtukudzi, Jah Prayzah and Suluman Chimbetu among others.
