WARRIORS legend, Cephas Chimedza, says former Dynamos’ winger, Bill Antonio, still has boxes to tick if he is planning for a long stay in Europe.
Antonio secured a move to Belgian Pro League side, KV Mechelen, last week.
It appears the 20-year-old is going to be eased through the side’s Under-23 team.
Antonio has followed the path of Chimedza, who went to Belgium, at the age of 21.
The difference is that Chimedza had won the Soccer Star of the Year award, before his departure.
Chimedza has been in Belgium since 2005.
He told H-Metro he is convinced Antonio has what it takes to make it in Belgium.
“I watched him playing in Zimbabwe on ZTN.
“I liked what I saw and, indeed, he has the attributes to play in the Jupiler Pro League.
“However, I urge him to listen to his coaches, it’s all about tactical discipline and it means following instructions even when they appear to be wrong.

“The Belgian league is too tactical, just like any other European league.
“It’s the team first before individual flair.
“Players have to fit into the system, hence certain players are placed in what other people might consider out of position.”
He stressed that Antonio must be ready to be questioned over his decisions.
“He’s coming from a place where he is loved to a place he is going to be questioned most of the time,” he said.
“The introduction of social media will help Antonio to survive homesickness.
“I’m sure it’s going to be easy for him to keep in touch with loved ones unlike when I came here.”
He said if Antonio ever needs his help, he will be happy to assist the promising youngster.
Chimedza had stints with Belgian teams like Germinal Beerschot, Sint Truiden and Capellen.
