adminDr Chimedza yesterday said 25 doctors and 18 nurses would offer free treatment to villagers at 13 health centres and schools scattered across the constituency.
The two-day exercise, which starts today ends tomorrow.
He said villagers would also benefit from various drugs which he mobilised following overwhelming support from colleagues in the pharmaceutical sector.
Dr Chimedza said at least 500 villagers would be treated at each of the 13 centres.
“We are targeting to offer free medical treatment to nearly 7 000 villagers at various schools and clinics where the 24 doctors and 18 nurses will be operating from,” said Dr Chimedza.
“Our aim is to make sure the poor villagers who had been living with various ailments even for decades but could not access treatment due to poverty can finally get the chance to be treated.
“We hope after that the health status of our people would have drastically improved.”
Dr Chimedza said he was humbled by the support he received from his colleagues in the medical and pharmaceutical sector.
“My main wish is to make sure that ordinary people of Zimbabwe even in remote corners of the country have access to medical facilities and I will continue to fight to make that a reality one day,’’ said Dr Chimedza.
The Zanu-PF Gutu South parliamentary candidate added that the quest to ensure access to health for ordinary people had always been his passion.
He said among the centres where the volunteer doctors and nurses would offer treatment were Cheshuro, Munjanganja, Majad, Chitando, Tirizi and Magombedze clinics.
The volunteers would also offer free treatment at Marinda, Chihambakwe, Mukaro primary schools and Chimedza and Rupiri Secondary schools among others.
Gutu is one of the districts with the poorest health delivery system in Masvingo province with villagers in some remote areas walking for up to 20 kilometres to access health care from the nearest clinic.
