Chimombe buried

Freddy, son to James Chimombe, succumbed to tuberculosis on Sunday.
It was a sombre affair as friends and relatives paid their last respects describing the death as a huge loss to the family.

Tendai Chimombe — Freddy’s elder sister — said she was at pains accepting his death.
“It not easy to appreciate that Freddy is no longer with us. But we are grateful to people from the Zimbabwe Music Rights Association, music promoters represented by Partson Chimboza and fellow musicians for their support during this trying time,” she said.

Tendai applauded Pastor Charles Charamba and Bob Nyabinde for being there for their family.
She said Nyabinde pledged to pay fees for Freddy’s six children.
Pastor Charamba said the nation had been dealt a severe blow following Freddy’s death.

“Hongu inzira yedu (It is true that we all go in the same way), but the pain lives with us forever. However, we have to learn to accept that death is a reality.”
His widow, Thulani added: “I would like to thank all the people who stood by us when he was sick and these include fellow musicians who raised money through music promoter Partson Chimboza,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Music Rights Association (Zimura), through their Zimura Cell Funeral Policy, assisted the Chimombe family in buying the coffin.
Born 38 years ago, Freddy took after his father’s music footsteps and played some of James’ songs, along with his own compositions.

His plans to make it big in the music scene were however dealt a severe blow when his health deteriorated.
A charity soccer match was held early this year to raise money to assist him and his family, courtesy of Chipaz Promotions.
