MADAM Lyu Renhong, wife of Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding, has reaffirmed the enduring friendship between China and Zimbabwe, while also encouraging children to believe in themselves and work hard for a brighter future.
Speaking during a handover event at Hossana Love in Africa Children’s Home in Harare yesterday — where donations were made on behalf of the Chinese Embassy and the Chinese community in Zimbabwe — adam Lyu described the gesture as a symbol of solidarity and hope.
“As the wife of the Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, and above all, as a mother, it is both an honour and a joy to extend warm greetings to each of you as we celebrate International Children’s Day on the 1st of June and the International Day of the African Child on the 16th of June.

“These are global moments that honour the rights, happiness, and resilience of children across the world. You are the flowers of the nation — you are the hope of the world,” she said.
She commended Hossana Love in Africa Children’s Home for over a decade of dedicated service, describing their commitment as “a sanctuary of love” and “kindness that transcends borders.”
“The true heroes in this room are not diplomats or donors. They are the remarkable individuals who have turned compassion into action,” said Madam Lyu.
Donations presented at the event included foodstuffs, educational supplies, and other essential goods to support the daily needs of the children at the home.

Reflecting on her own childhood, Madam Lyu shared a moving story of growing up in poverty in a small town 800 kilometres from Beijing — studying by candlelight and dreaming of a life beyond her village.
“I know life has not always been gentle with you, but your circumstances do not define you. Your courage and determination do,” she told the children.
She also highlighted inspiring success stories of children from the home who have gone on to achieve great things, including winners of the ‘Chinese Bridge’ language competition and recipients of Chinese Government Scholarships.

The event also marked the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Zimbabwe. Madam Lyu reaffirmed the two countries’ shared commitment to inclusive development, citing past collaborations in building schools, clinics, boreholes, and road rehabilitation projects across the country.
“China and Zimbabwe are more than partners. We are brothers and sisters in the pursuit of progress. We have chosen to journey far, hand in hand,” she said.
