MACADAMIA and avocado farmers in Chipinge have received a major boost in their operations following an engagement meeting scheduled for next month with buyers from China.
ZimTrade, the country’s export promotion body, is organising a Buyers’ Engagement Conference on April 8, bringing together avocado and macadamia producers, exporters and stakeholders.
This event follows the signing of the Protocol for Phytosanitary Requirements for Export of Zimbabwean Fresh Avocado to China during the 2024 FOCAC summit.
ZimTrade eastern region manager, Mr Admire Jongwe said the conference is the first of its kind, and present a ground-breaking opportunity for producers to meet directly with clients and understand their requirements.
“For the first time, avocado and macadamia buyers will meet directly with producers, providing a chance for farmers to get first-hand information on quality and quantity requirements for the Chinese market.
“This direct engagement enables producers to negotiate better prices without intermediaries. With the demand for avocados and macadamias rising sharply in China, farmers can capitalise on this opportunity to increase production and earnings. Zimbabwean agricultural products, including avocados and macadamias, are in high demand globally due to their high quality and organic nature,” said Mr Jongwe.
Chipinge District, a hub for avocado and macadamia farming, supports thousands of farmers directly and indirectly.
The conference aims to leverage this potential, connecting local producers with international buyers.
Zimbabwe exports avocados and macadamias to several countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Malaysia, and South Africa, highlighting their quality and demand.
