THE Deputy Minister for Land, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries, and Rural Development, Vangelis Haritatos, has commissioned a Chinese-sponsored model village at Zindi village in Shamva.
This follows the successful implementation of a similar model village in Mashonaland West.
The demonstration village features solar-powered boreholes for irrigating a nutritional garden, as well as fowl runs containing 1 000 broilers, 250 black Australorp chickens and a hatchery.
The Chinese Embassy has also established a public water point and tap water at the doorsteps of 16 households.
Around 38 villagers are involved in the project, which they have named the Chimbunda Farmers’ Club.
Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Zhou Ding, said this donation aligns with President Mnangagwa’s vision of leaving no one and no place behind.
He said the Government has made inclusive growth and poverty reduction the cornerstones of its development strategy.
“This vision deeply resonates with China’s remarkable journey of development and poverty alleviation,” he said.
Deputy Minister Haritatos emphasised that the project is not just another agricultural initiative but serves as a living laboratory for innovation, bridging traditional knowledge with modern technology.
He described the model village as a practical learning hub where farmers can gain hands-on experience with advanced irrigation systems, including drip and pivot irrigation, to combat climate variability.
