A CHINESE national has been sucked into a US$98 000 theft storm after selling a friend’s car.

Meng Dong of Highlands, Harare, was remanded in custody to today pending bail considerations when he appeared before magistrate Donald Ndirowei.

The complainant is Sun Hao, a Chinese national residing in Avondale.

It is the State’s case that on February 2, Dong requested a car to use for four days from Hao, and was given a Nissan Patrol.

Three days later, Dong is said to have driven the car to Wiltech Auto Trade Car Sale pretending to be Hao’s agent.

When Hao went to collect his car from Dong, he was told that it had been used as collateral for a loan Dong had taken.

Hao filed a police report and upon arrest on Sunday, Dong led the police to recover the vehicle from Wilberforce Wiltech Auto Trade Car Sale Harare.

It had been bought by someone identified only as Ruzvidzo.
